Through large parts of 2023 and early 2024, the story in carbon dioxide (CO2) markets was largely one of contented supply on both sides of the Atlantic. Not plentiful, certainly not in abundance, but more comfortable than years prior.
The undertone to the conversation was one of surprise, especially in Europe where a striking statement of ‘nothing to see here’ and ‘no more shortages’ on our watch was uttered by some stakeholders on the sidelines of the European CO2 Summit 2024 in the mountains of Innsbruck, Austria.
But like the phenomenon of pareidolia, where individuals see objects, patterns or meaning in objects where there is none, were we simply searching for something we wanted to see? CO2 View’s analysis of the CO2 sourcing and supply-side market suggests there’ll be something to see here for some time to come.
